Bruna Tomaselli – Watch Out

On the day of the 2018 INDYCAR Grand Prix, we interviewed two female drivers in the USF2000 series (and if you are unclear – don’t worry there is a great write up HERE): Sabre Cook and Bruna Tomaselli. Bruna was nervous and let us know ahead of time she wasn’t completely secure in her English. It was an endearing moment, and during our interview, she was open and honest and very genuine. She was a driver I cheered for during the 2018 season. I had my fingers crossed when she was named as one of the initial candidates for the W-Series.

As many open-wheel racers, Bruna started in karting in her native Brazil. She spent the years 2007-2012 in karting. In 2012 she finished third in the PKG Graduate class and fourth in the Sudam Junior class. Following her time in Karting, Bruna advanced to the Formula ladder series. She raced in Formula Junior Brazil in 2013 and 2014, earning a podium and a seventh-place finish in 2013. After Formula Junior Brazil she moved up to Formula 4 South America for 2015 and 2016. She finished sixth overall in 2015 and fourth overall in 2016. She had an amazing 2016 season, with eighteen top ten finishes and five podium in a season of twenty races.

Bruna transferred over to the Road to Indy program in 2017. She drove for Team Pelfrey, and the bright yellow cars, in 2017. She finished twenty-first overall with her best finish being twelfth. In 2018 she improved with an overall finish of sixteenth and a best finish of seventh.

Towards the end of 2018, Bruna was announced as part of the initial list of applicants for the W-Series. She, unfortunately, did not advance through. Shortly after that announcement, Bruna was announced to be a driver for Pabst racing for the 2019 USF 2000 season. I’ll be excited to continue to cheer for her, she’s got great instincts.

I’m very proud to be a Brazilian driver and be a woman driver as well. It is very good to be representing my country and women in a big motorsport series.
